Restoration Background

Since 2014, when the church and rectory had been placed in the full care of the Misson Saint Irénée de Lyon, a great many repairs and restorations have been completed.

To fund these projects, the Mission secured several grants through a cost-sharing programme with Le Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Québec. Under this arrangement, the government supplied 70% of the funding for every 30% raised by the Mission.

This programme was paused in June 2025 – the government no longer co-finances any renovation projects. Any repairs we now undertake must be funded entirely by your donations to St. Irénée.

Current Project

South-Facing Windows Repair
Goal: $400,000

Following the successful front and South-facade window restoration, a similar endeavour is urgently needed for the North-side of the church. The frames and sashes will be dismantled, boarded up temporarily; repaired and repainted in our local contractor’s workshop in Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie. Once rehabilitated, the windows will be reinstalled. Careful attention will be paid throughout to preserve the building’s unique heritage.

North-Facing Windows Repair
Complete restoration of 75 exterior shutters and their large wooden frames. Traditional re-glazing of all panes.

Main Bell Tower
Reroofing, restoration of the crucifix at the top of the bell tower.

Rectory Renovations
Kitchen, library and drawing room.

Organ
Faithful restoration of the organ’s internal mechanisms, original 1910 pipework, and historic casework, preserving its defining visual and musical character.

Baby Room
Nursing chair/corner added, plus video streaming facilities installed in the basement for families with young children.

Altar Rails and Refurbishment of the Sanctuary.
Restoration of altar for Our Lady, the reintroduction of a communion rail, and new flooring throughout the sanctuary.
